Tiny House series

I spent a summer weekend alone in a tiny house on a farm near Nerstrand, Minnesota in 2021. The smoke from distant wildfires meant that I was confined to the small space, surrounded by the art materials I brought with me. Avoiding falling into the trap of rigid planning, I allowed myself to slip into boredom and restlessness so I could find playful experimentation.

I eventually found joy in a simple collage composition of a kidney bean with three squares. I liked the contrast of the strict, straight lines with the organic curves. I took it a step farther by finding harmonic contrasts within the images themselves: color, texture, value, subject.

All originals were distributed to a cohort of artists participating in an art exchange coordinated by Wet Paint.
